Filter Sand Replacement: Step-by-Step Guide

A sand filter is an essential component of a pool's cleaning system, with its primary function being to keep the water in optimal condition. This device captures and removes small particles, including dirt, leaves, insects, hair, sunscreen, and other debris.

Replacing sand in your filter step by step

1. Before starting any work, be sure to turn off the system and disconnect the power supply to prevent accidents.
2. Uninstall the equipment and drain the water from the filter before replacing the sand. This can be done by using the drain valve or opening the flush cap.
3. Carefully remove the cap, and you will see the old sand inside; use a shovel or cup to remove it. You may also notice a tube in the middle. Make sure no sand falls into it; if it helps, you can cover the end with a cloth or plastic bag.
4. Once you have removed all the old sand, clean the inside of the device and the tube mentioned above to remove any remaining residue or dirt. You can rinse with clean water or use a soft brush to clean the surfaces.
5. Check that the tube and the small parts on the back of the tube are intact. This should be done with great care. If you notice any deterioration, you must replace these segments, or you will have sand leaks in your pool.
6. Now it's time to add the new sand. First, add a small amount, then place the hose with the other parts, and finally, add the rest of the sand.

1. Replace the cap and tighten it once the sand is added. Ensure it’s tight and the filter is installed correctly to prevent water leaks.
2. Once the filter is connected correctly, open the valves to perform an initial backwash. This removes any grit that may have become trapped during the process. To do this, set the filter to “backwash” mode and turn on the pump. Water will begin to come out of the sight glass tube, and you'll need to wait until the water becomes clear.
3. Turn the pump off and to the “rinse” position, then turn the pump back on and wait another minute. You will see that the water in the filter sight glass tube has become completely clear.
4. Finally, switch to the “filter” position, and you're done.
